“Let’s shine with STARFISH” week

We will all be exploring different elements of our STARFISH VALUES this week. We will be having discussion groups, debates, researching and creating presentations for our class and school. .I wonder who the STARFISH STARS will be for this term?

A chance to meet your child’s class teacher over breakfast or lunch and discuss the routines, curriculum learning, well-being systems and procedures in our school. Parents and carers will be able to ask questions about any areas that they are unsure of and get a feel for the class vision for this academic year.

New System and curriculum trial

Swimming – 

This year children in Y4/Y5/Y6 who can swim will continue to receive their allocated slot. Non-swimmers will be swimming until they gain the recommended 25 metres. Year 3 will have their normal allocated sessions and Year 1 and 2 children will receive a taster session in the spring term. 

Swimming will continue to take place on a Tuesday morning with lessons running from September 10th to February 11thhalf term. We will send a text and email to all parents and carers to notify them when their child is swimming as the year progresses.

Session 1 will be for non-swimmers in Y4/5/6 and Y4/6 swimmers

Nursery Reading Meeting

9:00am and 3:00pm This session is all about having fun with nursery rhymes and magical books. During the reading meeting we will be discussing the importance of language, introducing the tower of language displayed in the nursery. Each month we will be working on one aspect from the tower of languages. We have five great ideas for you to remember when helping your child to enjoy stories and we will show how print in the environment is important too. Do come along and enjoy our meeting.

During this week we will be receiving a Teso school update with Lorna – This is our twin school in Uganda. We will be buying the village more goats to add to their herd. We can’t wait to find out what the children need too.

New Curriculum Trial

Curriculum Launch Days – Nursery – Y6Please see the wider curriculum section of the school website. A great day’s learning to launch our learning theme for this half term. This will be an in-depth history study from the Stone age to Queen Victoria. All classes will be looking at a particular time era exploring how the people dressed, ate, lived and what influence their period of history has had on our society today.

New Welcome Meeting – Nursery

We will be having a new welcome meeting for children starting our nursery in January 2020. It will be a full day offer where you will be able to come into school and visit our nursery at any point during the day, please stay and play. If this day is not suitable for you, please ring us and arrange another day.

Phonics Expert: Miss Topley

Phonics Meeting – 9:00-10:00

Nursery – Year 2 

This session will introduce our phonics scheme of work. It will help parents and carers to know how to support their child when they are practising phonemes, segmenting and blending at home. An important session. You will be able to join your child in their phonics group and share their learning.

Science Expert: Miss Leonard

Polar Explorer Day

This will be a fun filled science day where children will be put into teams and be using their scientific skills to tackle a range of science experiments based on saving the planet for example global warming. The phiz lab will be in use all day and we will be assigned a polar explorer ambassador who will facilitate the day.

Year 6 Taster Day at Hall Park Academy- English, Maths and Science

This is an opportunity for children who are hoping to gain a place at Hall Park Academy.

New Challenge Level

Springbank Sponsored Walk. Come and join us for a walk to raise funds for our school. This year the funds raised will support the growth of our new outside learning areas. 9:00am Key Stage 2 children (Y3/Y4/Y5/Y6) and at 1:00pm Nursey, Reception and Key Stage 1 (Y1/Y2) to meet in the school hall. The walks will start from the school playground at 9:30am and 1:15pm, weather permitting.  If not, an alternative date will be set. This year there will be three routes, a shorter route for Nursery, reception and key stage 1, a longer route for Key Stage 2 children and a challenge walk for those children and parents and carers who wish to take part. 

The challenge walk will take place in the morning with the Key Stage 2 walk.  Please join us if you can. An alternative date will be arranged if the weather is not suitable.

Teaching and Learning Conferences. - September intake settling in chats

Nursery Mrs Shipman 8:00am – 7:00pm

A chance for parents and carers to meet with their child and class teachers to discuss school routines and what home and school can do to support them in achieving their year expectations. Parents and carers will be able to sign up at the classroom door for an appointment. If you have work commitments please ring school and we will gladly allocate a time slot for you.

This year we are hosting restaurants differently. Each year group will plan, organise and host their own restaurant based on a theme that fits in with their wider curriculum parents/carers will be invited to join us. The restaurant will open at 3:00pm until 5:00pm.
